For five years now I've been working with the South Community Birth Program as a Birth Doula and a Postpartum Doula. I can't not say enough about the dedicated, passionate and caring women that work on this team!
Family physicians, midwives, doulas, community health nurses and lactation consultants all provide care in a community based, culturally appropriate and woman-centred manner during pregnancy, birth and the newborn period. This program was designed to improve the health outcomes of pregnant women and their families by offering a wholistic care model. Women are encouraged to take their health in to their own hands through education and support.
This amazing program provides you with care from a team of midwives, family doctors and nurses from the moment of conception. You receive nine two-hour sessions of Connecting Pregnancy classes which focus on topics such as nutrition and exercise, relaxation and comfort in labour, the birthing process, pain management options, breastfeeding and infant care. You will be assigned a doula around 36 weeks which includes a prenatal meeting, continuous support throughout labour and one postpartum visit. And if that's not enough, once you've had your baby the South team makes home visits, provides you with continued care to support you in breastfeeding and there are weekly drop-in's at the clinic. You also have the option to attend postpartum workshops by donation where you can learn about topics such as infant sleep, baby massage, babyproofing and so much more!
Proud to be a part of this amazing team!
