Allie's Reviews & Testimonials
We contacted Allie to help us install a car seat... for which she was an amazing help! We felt like we clicked well with her and a few weeks later when our birth plan changed last minute and we found ourselves walking into the hospital for a scheduled c-section, we called Allie to see if she would be available as support for me and my husband. It was her day off but Allie made time to be with us for the c-section that day, and continued to be an incredible postpartum resource for us when we had some latching issues with breastfeeding. She had baby breastfeeding exclusively in 24 hours! I had been pumping for 10 days after birth and bottle feeding as he was refusing the breast. She also helped us out with a loaner bucket car seat when ours turned out to be a little too big for baby. She drove to the hospital as we were leaving to install it and then came by our place a week later to help us install our own bucket seat. The delicious baked goods she brought us were just the cherry on top! And they were DELICIOUS. Allie was there for us at every stumbling block we encountered and she provided a wealth of resources and information to help us through. She always made time for us! Reliable, available, resourceful... Allie was the doula I needed when I didn't think a doula was for me."
Allie, words can’t even begin to put into words how grateful we are for all your support and help with Lochlan. You have no idea how much an impact you made and how much you helped us through. Especially with him being 6 weeks early! I honestly think I would’ve given up on breastfeeding (one of the hardest things with having a preemie) if it weren’t for you. You made me feel like we could do it, you were so positive and reassuring through the whole process and I can’t thank you enough. You are the absolute best! We are so thankful to have had you as our doula and LC through this journey. Thank you for everything!!"
Allie came to our place when my little one was 10 days. We booked her our of despair since the first days were tough. We worked with midwifes that were amazing thru the whole process but welcomed the extra help due to challenges with milk supply (that I felt I had). Allie arrived to our place with an amazing, happy and strong energy that made us feel very comfortable. We did the assessment and discuss all the challenges I was experiencing, the questions I had and the process to breastfeed. One by one she answered all my questions and help with the challenges. She reassured me on the things I was doing and gave me another boost of energy to continue the process with a plan she prepared specifically for me. I did not know her before my baby came, however I would recommend to talk with her before and get your questions answered, it will save you so much stress and you will feel prepared! Breastfeeding is important yet difficult for every first time mom."
Hey Allie! Just wanted to thank you again for your visit yesterday. Although breastfeeding hasn't felt natural to me since birth, you put things into words that made it feel natural and allowed me to develop my own instincts and ideas around it all and that has felt natural to me. So I wanted to say thank you for being flexible and giving me guidance and space as I explore my own feelings around breastfeeding and start to actually enjoy it with my baby. I feel like an enormous cloud has cleared above my head."
We're back up to birth weight!! No doubt because of your assistance and the doctor asked for your info so everyone can hire you! They were so happy with baby's weight gain and that fact that breastfeeding was going so so well. Thank you so much for your reassurance and support as we went through a couple scary days there with jaundice. You were our light while baby was under the lights and we would have been lost in this process without you!"

From birth, my baby did not latch on to breastfeed. Allie worked with me over four weeks to build up my baby's rooting reflex. We practiced a variety of feeding positions, built up my baby's sucking reflex and worked on an effective breast pumping routine to build up my milk supply. She remained optimistic throughout my journey which was vital to my success. I now am confidently and comfortably exclusively breastfeeding my baby."

Allie- We have begun to refine things and shift, and it already feels so good. My pumping already improved in output since yesterday evening and I have no doubt it is the confidence you helped me build and the release of expectation and stress that your visit brought. Along with our first walk outside which was amazing!!
We can already sense an important shift and how much it has already helped me to find the important space to just enjoy L.
It was wonderful to meet you and again, thank you."

Hey everyone, hope this recommendation helps someone! I just wanted to give a shout out to Allison Mennie at North Shore Doula. We were lucky to meet her just before baby arrived and she has been such an amazing help with breastfeeding advice and everything postpartum. She’s never been forceful with her advice and she’s always there with a supportive message or phone call Would highly recommend!!!"
I could not have picked a better doula to be present for the birth of my son. Allie was there for me from the very beginning of my pregnancy right until the delivery and beyond that. She answered every question and was more than accommodating of me not living in the same city! She made sure not only I but also my support people were as ready as possible for the event. Periodically she was checking in on me making sure if I had any concerns or questions that they were answered. Allie is very evidence-based and this spoke to me. I like concrete information and research I can read and trust. When I had questions Allie provided credible sources I could go over and make informed choices with. If she didn't immediately have sources she had no problem putting the work in to get me what I was looking for. When my labour started I can honestly say that I had an absolute need for her to be there. She was the person I trusted during this incredibly vulnerable time. Without her support, I do not know if I would have been able to successfully get through my home birth. She did everything possible to support me and make my first night with my new baby so successful. From making sure both me and my baby ate to helping my partner clean up. In the weeks following the birth, her support remained the same. I am so blessed to say that Allie now has a special place in our family. When I decide to do this crazy thing again I will most definitely be using her as my doula."
Allie is AMAZING! She provided hands on genuine care throughout my pregnancy. I felt comfortable asking questions along the way about what I was feeling and about what to expect. Allie also helped to ensure that we could safely bring baby home by installing our infant car seat. We have a toddler at home as well, and she helped make the necessary adjustments to ensure everyone was safe! Would definitely recommend NS doula!"
I went into my second pregnancy with so much anxiety but also hope. I wanted a VBAC so so bad to heal some wounds from my first birth. From the first meeting I knew this was my team. Having Allie VBAC certified gave me peace of mind and she was so great at helping me process everything I was thinking/feeling. Then I ended up having a precipitous labour and went from water breaking at work to baby in my arms in just over an hour. Allie made incredible calls under pressure and not only made it to the hospital minutes before me, she also helped coordinate with the Midwife and called the police to ensure we weren’t pulled over as my husband ran red lights down Marine Drive :). You will be in great hands if you choose to hire these wonderful women."
I seriously don’t even know where to start. Allison went above and beyond, like to infinity and beyond, our expectations! She was caring and thoughtful every step of the way and respected each and every one of our decisions, all the while being a professional source of valid and well-researched information. It is not hard to see that Allie adores being a doula because she takes every opportunity to be better equipped to serve you in your pregnancy, labour, birth, and postpartum experience. I loved knowing that Allie was always continuing her learning about all aspects of pregnancy and birth. My husband was also nervous about having a doula because he was worried that it would replace his role as my birth partner and he said that he couldn’t have been more wrong about that.
Allie gently coached me and encouraged me to partner with Sarah in effective ways that I would have never instinctively done before. She was truly my birth partner too.” - Carter (my husband)
Allie journeyed with us through the whole process, she laughed with us, cried with us, researched with us, processed with us, discerned with us and nourished is physically, emotionally and mentally. She is so down-to-earth and personable that she makes you feel at home in her presence. I can honestly say that there’s no one else we would’ve rather had alongside us. We love you Allie!"

Allie, meeting you has been the best experience and I am grateful to have your guidance on my breastfeeding journey. I thought I was doomed to repeat my first breastfeeding experience with my second baby, but your advice has made all the difference. It is nothing short of a miracle that I have been able to exclusively breastfeed my baby! The antenatal hand expression made all the difference for my baby not losing 10% body weight before hospital discharge. I wish I had met you the first time around. I wish all pregnant women hoping to breastfeed could be connected with someone like you before birth. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
I just wanted to check in and let you know that Lila is basically exclusively breastfed now!
I mean she still gets bottles from Kyle in the evenings but it’s with breast milk I’ve collected from the haaka. In fact I’m collecting so much I’m having to freeze it. I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of your help and support! Considering when we met I wasn’t attempting to feed her on the breast at all it’s crazy where we are now! I didn’t even realize how much I wanted to breastfeed so thank you so much for helping to make that happen!"
Allie is fantastic! Such a welcoming and fun disposition, that immediately puts any worries at ease. Matched with her expertise, I always feel like I'm getting very sound and practical advice. Will definitely be recommending her to friends in need of breastfeeding support."
I can't emphasize enough how much Allie's support through my pregnancy, labour, birth (especially!!), and postpartum meant to myself and my husband. She made such a positive difference in the whole experience. We met a couple of different doulas and felt that Allie's personality would fit the best with ours, and she would be able to confidently guide us through this major, unknown, and scary experience - we were right, and she was phenomenal!
The things that set her apart were her knowledge, experience, strength, confidence, positive attitude, and humour. Leading up to the day she was able to answer any questions we had, whether medical or emotional, and made us feel as prepared as we could be. Her experience spans from the birth of her own daughter, to countless births with other mums - knowing the hospital, its staff, and process/procedures very well. My husband was especially grateful to have her at the birth to direct how and where he could be helpful and supportive. She knew how and when she could be relaxed, light and funny, and then the times that needed to be serious and assertive. Her support continued postpartum for the very intense days and weeks post birth - available anytime - for support through the physical and emotional recovery, guidance and advice in caring for our little one, encouragement, acknowledgement, and reassurance that it is hard, but we're doing a great job. All in all, she was the perfect match for us, and we would (and do) recommend her to anyone we know who's having a baby."
My short review is that Allie is an amazing, supportive person who goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and help you achieve whatever your feeding goals are. I recommend her to everyone!
For my full review, I have to tell a bit of my story. Before the birth of our daughter I was quite ambivalent about breastfeeding. I thought it would be nice if I could do it but wasn’t going to push myself too much if it didn’t work out. I ended up spending four days in the hospital after birth and although we started off well with breastfeeding, the nurse we had on our last day undid all the techniques I had and put me off completely with forceful latching.
So when I had my first consultation with Allie, I was pumping, then bottle feeding it to baby and topping up with formula. I hated pumping and was exhausted. I’d tried breastfeeding once since we left hospital but had ended up in tears.
Allie gave me the confidence to try again and worked really hard with me to work out what my feeding goals were. Although I’d felt ambivalent at first, it seemed that breastfeeding was actually really important to me and Allie recognized this and supported it without being pushy (a rare skill!)
With her support, I spent the next few weeks breastfeeding and topping up with formula and milk collected in a haaka. Gradually, the formula top ups got smaller and smaller and now baby is exclusively breastfed and I have built a freezer stash of milk from the haaka!
Throughout the journey, Allie has been there with endless positivity and answers to all my questions and worries.
Like I said, I will recommend her to anyone and everyone - I can honestly say I wouldn’t be breastfeeding today if it wasn’t for her."
Allie is amazing! The ability she has to inform and educate people without judgement and without withholding plans or ideas for fear they might be too much work is truly amazing. Other LCs I saw, completely wouldn't talk to me about exclusive pumping because it would be too much work for me. Allie laid it out in a plan of options with many other things and allowed me to decide what was going to work for me. I appreciated her insight and confidence in creating a plan and working through difficulties and challenges. She is so knowledgable and kind with her ideas and I felt a renewed sense of control over my body and milk supply. I had seen other LCs that told me some options were too hard or not the same as breastfeeding or that the trouble I was having with breastfeeding was my fault because I wasn't being relaxed about it enough. I appreciated Allie's candor and support and openness to dive down any train of thought I was having instead of ignoring and invalidating me. Allie has the unique ability to be kind and compassionate and be really real and I think that is a trait that is so important in her line of work. I recommend her to everyone who is looking for a lactation consultant or even people who want to formula feed and breastfeed because I know Allie is open-minded to helping anyone with however their feeding journey looks."
